Izumo is a city located in the Shimane Prefecture on the western coast of Honshu island in Japan. It serves as a regional hub and is situated along the Sea of Japan.

The city is historically significant as a center of Japanese mythology and Shinto worship. It is notably home to the Izumo Taisha, one of Japan's most important shrines, which is traditionally associated with the deity Okuninushi.
