Kamakura, officially known as Kamakura City, is located in the Kanagawa Prefecture of Japan. It is situated within the Kantō region on the island of Honshu. The city was officially designated as such on November 3, 1939.
The city covers a total area of 39.67 km2 (15.32 sq mi) and has an estimated population of 172,929 residents. This results in a population density of approximately 4,359 people per km2.
