Kure is a city located in the Hiroshima Prefecture of Japan. As of April 30, 2023, the city had an estimated population of 208,024 residents living in 106,616 households. It covers a total area of 352.80 square kilometres (136.22 sq mi) with a population density of approximately 590 persons per km2.
The city is characterized by its significant industrial and naval heritage. Kure is home to the second-oldest naval dockyard in Japan and continues to serve as an important base for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
