Takasaki is a city located in the Gunma Prefecture of Japan. As of August 31, 2020, it had an estimated population of 372,369 residents living in 167,345 households. The city covers a total area of 459.16 square kilometres (177.28 sq mi) and maintains a population density of approximately 810 persons per km2.
The city is notably recognized as the hometown of the Daruma doll. These dolls theoretically represent the Buddhist sage Bodhidharma and serve as a modern symbol of good luck. Additionally, Takasaki has been the largest city in Gunma Prefecture since 1990, following its growth to surpass Maebashi.
