Towada is a city located in the Aomori Prefecture of Japan. As of October 31, 2025, the city has an estimated population of 56,766 residents living in 28,222 households. It covers a total area of 725.65 square kilometers (280.18 sq mi), resulting in a population density of approximately 78 persons per km2.
The city serves as the central hub of the Kamikita region and houses the national and prefectural agencies responsible for its administration. To improve the local living environment, Towada entered into an agreement in October 2012 with nine surrounding municipalities. Additionally, the city maintains a cooperative relationship with Misawa City, which is home to an airport and a U.S. Air Force base.
