Aomori, officially known as Aomori City, serves as the capital city of Aomori Prefecture located in the Tōhoku region of Japan. It functions as the central hub of the Aomori metropolitan area and is classified as one of Japan's 62 core cities.
As of August 1, 2023, the city had an estimated population of 264,945 residents living in 136,781 households. The city covers a total area of 824.61 square kilometers (318.38 square miles), resulting in a population density of approximately 321 people per square kilometer.
