Suwaylih (also known as Sweileh) is district number sixteen in the city of Amman, Jordan. Located to the north of the city center, it was established in 1906 by Chechen settlers during the period of Ottoman rule. As of the 2015 census, the area had a population of 151,016 residents.
The district is characterized by its high altitude, which provides a favorable climate throughout the year and makes it one of the few areas in Amman to experience snowfall during the winter months. Its local economy is diverse, featuring the cultivation of grapes and olives alongside heavy industries such as cement production, steel manufacturing, and auto assembly.
Suwaylih is currently one of the most populated districts in Amman. It serves as a significant regional connection point to other cities, including Salt, Irbid, and Jarash. Additionally, the area is home to the University of Jordan.
