Terrazzo is a composite material primarily utilized for floor and wall treatments. It is composed of chips made from marble, quartz, granite, glass, or other suitable materials that are mixed with a cementitious binder, a polymeric binder, or a combination of both. The material can be poured in place or precast during the construction process.
The manufacturing process involves pouring the mixture and occasionally sprinkling additional chips onto the surface before it sets. Metal strips are often used to divide different sections, while variations in color or material can create specific patterns. Once cured, the material is ground and polished to achieve a smooth finish or other desired texture. The term "terrazzo" is also frequently applied to any pattern that mimics these original floor designs. Modern iterations of this material include polished concrete.
