Padua is a city and comune located in the Veneto region of northern Italy. It serves as the capital of the province of Padua and is situated on the banks of the river Bacchiglione. Geographically, the city lies approximately 40 kilometres west of Venice and 29 km southeast of Vicenza.

As of 2025, Padua has a population of 207,694, making it the third-largest city in the Veneto region. It functions as an economic and communications hub for the area and is frequently included in the Padua–Treviso–Venice metropolitan area, known as PATREVE, which has a total population of around 2,600,000.
