Trento, also known as Trent, is a city located on the Adige River in the autonomous province of Trento within the Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol region of Italy. It serves as the capital of its namesake province and holds the distinction of being the third largest municipality in the Alps and the second largest in the historical region of Tyrol.
Historically, the city was part of Austria and Austria-Hungary before it was annexed by Italy in 1919. It is notably recognized as the location of the Council of Trent during the 16th century. As of 2022, the city has a population of 118,142 inhabitants.
