Portoferraio is a town and comune located in the province of Livorno, Italy. It is situated on the edge of the eponymous harbour on the island of Elba in the Tuscany region.
As the largest town on the island of Elba, Portoferraio is characterized by its unique geography. Due to the local terrain, many of its buildings are constructed on the slopes of a small hill that is bordered by the sea on three sides.
