Florence is the capital and most populous city of the Italian region of Tuscany. It also serves as the capital of the eponymous metropolitan province. As of 2026, it ranks as the eighth most populous city in Italy with a population of 361,625.

The urban area of Florence has an estimated population of 696,767 people according to Eurostat. Additionally, the Metropolitan Area of Florence, Prato and Pistoia was established in 2000 over an area of approximately 4,800 square kilometres and is home to 1.5 million residents.
