Carrara is a town and comune located in the Tuscany region of central Italy. It is situated within the province of Massa and Carrara on the banks of the Carrione River, approximately 100 kilometres west-northwest of Florence.
The area is primarily notable for its white and blue-grey marble quarries. The town's motto, "Fortitudo mea in rota," refers to the marble shipping industry that has been established in the region since Roman times.
