Porto Empedocle is a town and comune located on the coast of the Strait of Sicily in Italy. It is administratively part of the province of Agrigento.
The municipality was named in honor of Empedocles, a Greek pre-Socratic philosopher who was a citizen of the ancient Greek colony of Akragas in Sicily. The local economy is primarily supported by several industries, including agriculture, fishing, ironworking, pharmaceuticals, and rock salt refining.
