Pantelleria, historically known as Cossyra or Cossura, is an Italian island and comune located in the Strait of Sicily within the Mediterranean Sea. It is situated approximately 106 kilometres southwest of Sicily and 68 kilometres east of the Tunisian coast; on clear days, the coastline of Tunisia can be seen from the island.
Administratively, the comune of Pantelleria belongs to the Sicilian province of Trapani. The island serves as a distinct geographical point between Italy and North Africa.
