Messina is a harbor city located in northeastern Sicily, Italy. It serves as the capital of the Italian Metropolitan City of Messina and stands as the third largest city on the island. As of 2025, the city proper has a population of 217,033 inhabitants, while the broader metropolitan area houses 595,948 people.

Situated at the Strait of Messina, the city functions as an important access terminal to the Calabria region on the Italian mainland. It provides a primary connection point to Villa San Giovanni and Reggio Calabria.
