Pula, also known as Pola, is located at the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula in western Croatia. It serves as the largest city in Istria County and ranks as the seventh-largest city in the country, with a population of 52,220 recorded in 2021.
The city is primarily recognized for its numerous ancient Roman buildings, most notably the Pula Arena. This structure is noted as one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheaters remaining today. Historically, Pula served as the administrative center of Istria from ancient Roman times until it was superseded by Pazin in 1991.
The local economy and culture are characterized by long-standing traditions in wine making, fishing, shipbuilding, and tourism.
