Porto Torres is a comune and city located in the north-west region of Sardinia, Italy. It falls under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan City of Sassari and is situated on the coast approximately 25 kilometres east of Falcone Cape, positioned in the center of the Gulf of Asinara.
The city was founded during the 1st century BC as Colonia Iulia Turris Libisonis, making it the first Roman colony established on the island. Today, it serves as a significant maritime hub, housing the second largest seaport in Sardinia after Olbia. Porto Torres is also located in close proximity to the city of Sassari, which hosts the local university.
