Canosa di Puglia, commonly referred to as Canosa, is a town and comune located in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani in the Apulia region of southern Italy. It is situated between Bari and Foggia on the northwestern edge of the Murgia plateau, near the town of Barletta and the Ofanto valley.
Historically known as the Roman Canusium, the town is recognized as one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in Italy and serves as a principal archaeological center for Apulia. The area holds historical significance as it is located near the site on the Ofanto River where Romans sought refuge following the Battle of Cannae. Additionally, the town is the burial place of Bohemond I of Antioch.
The region's archaeological heritage is represented by numerous finds, including a variety of vases and other artifacts held within local museums and private collections.
