Mango is a tropical stone fruit produced by the tree species Mangifera indica. It originated in the northeastern part of the Indian subcontinent, specifically within the regions that currently comprise Bangladesh, northeastern India, and Myanmar.

The species has been cultivated throughout South and Southeast Asia since ancient times. This long history of cultivation has resulted in two distinct modern cultivar lineages known as the "Indian" and the "Southeast Asian" types. Additionally, other species within the genus Mangifera produce edible fruits also referred to as mangoes, primarily located in the Malesian ecoregion.
