The Taíno were an Indigenous people who inhabited most of the West Indies and the Caribbean region of the Americas. They were members of the Arawak group of Indigenous peoples and are also known by the names Island Arawaks or Antillean Arawaks.
As the first New World peoples encountered by non-Norse Europeans, their culture has persisted into the present day through their descendants and various Taíno revivalist communities.
