Gazzuolo is a comune (municipality) located in the Province of Mantua within the Lombardy region of northern Italy. It is situated approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) southwest of Mantua and about 120 kilometres (75 mi) southeast of Milan.
Historically, the town was a possession of the Gonzaga family, who served as the lords of Mantua, starting from the late Middle Ages. During the 1370s and 1380s, the town was notably held by John Hawkwood, a prominent English mercenary captain active in Italy during the 14th century.
