Chiesa in Valmalenco is a comune located in the Province of Sondrio within the Lombardy region of Italy. Situated approximately 100 kilometres northeast of Milan and 11 kilometres north of Sondrio, it lies on the border with Switzerland. It serves as the most significant village within the Valmalenco valley.

The surrounding area is recognized for its specific mountain geology and its popularity as a destination for alpine skiing. The name "Valmalenco" has various cultural interpretations; local tradition suggests it may originate from Celtic or Pre-Roman civilizations, with translations potentially meaning "head pressed by water" or "mountain river." As of December 31, 2004, the municipality covered an area of 114.8 square kilometres with a population of 2,714.
