Brescia is a city and comune located in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. Situated at the foot of the Alps, it lies just a few kilometers from Lake Garda and Lake Iseo. It serves as the administrative capital of the Province of Brescia, which is one of the largest provinces in Italy.

The city has a population of 201,715, making it the second-largest city in Lombardy after Milan and the fourth-largest in northwest Italy. It holds the distinction of being the northernmost Italian city with more than 200,000 inhabitants. The broader urban area supports 672,822 people, while its metropolitan area exceeds 1.5 million residents.
