Cairo Montenotte is a comune (municipality) situated in the Province of Savona within the Italian region of Liguria. It is located approximately 50 kilometres west of Genoa and 20 kilometres northwest of Savona, specifically positioned in the Val Bormida area.
As the main centre of Val Bormida, Cairo Montenotte serves as a significant regional hub with a population of 12,691 inhabitants. It ranks as the fourth municipality in the province, following Savona, Albenga, and Varazze, and is noted as the most popular municipality in Liguria that does not have an outlet to the sea. Additionally, it possesses the second-largest municipal area in the province, surpassed only by Sassello.
