Tarquinia, formerly known as Corneto, is a town and comune located in the Province of Viterbo within the Lazio region of central Italy. The municipality currently has a population of 15,862 inhabitants.
The area is notable for its ancient burial grounds, known as necropoleis, which date from the Iron Age to Roman times. These archaeological sites are situated on the promontories adjacent to the modern town of Tarquinia.
