Ciampino is a city and comune located in the Metropolitan City of Rome within the Lazio region of Italy. It historically functioned as a frazione of Marino until 1974, at which point it was established as an independent comune.
The municipality officially obtained its status as a city in 2004 through a presidential decree. It remains a recognized administrative division within the surrounding metropolitan area.
