Sgonico is a comune located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of northeastern Italy. It sits within the regional decentralization entity of Trieste, positioned approximately 12 kilometres northwest of the city of Trieste along the border with Slovenia.
The municipality covers an area of 31.3 square kilometres and had a population of 1,956 as of July 31, 2025. Historically, the area has a significant Slovenian presence; according to the 1971 census, 81.6% of the population identified as Slovenes.
