Prato is a city and comune located in the Tuscany region of Italy. It serves as the capital of the Province of Prato and is situated in the northeast of the region at an elevation of 65 metres (213 ft) at the foot of Monte Retaia.
The city is positioned approximately 15–17 kilometers from Florence. As of 2026, Prato has a population of 198,327, making it the second-largest city in Tuscany after Florence and the 18th-largest city in Italy.
