Ottone

Italy

Ottone is not a city in Italy, but rather the title of an opera composed by George Frideric Handel. The work features an Italian-language libretto adapted by Nicola Francesco Haym from Stefano Benedetto Pallavicino's libretto for Antonio Lotti's opera Teofane.

The opera was the first new production written for the fourth season of the Royal Academy of Music in 1719. It premiered on January 12, 1723, at the King's Theatre in Haymarket, London. The production was a significant success, featuring a cast of prominent operatic superstars.
