Modigliana is a comune located in the Province of Forlì-Cesena within the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. It is situated approximately 50 kilometres southeast of Bologna and about 20 kilometres southwest of Forlì.
The name of the municipality is derived from the toponym (Castrum) Mutilum, which translates to "cut off, broken," combined with the adjectival suffix -ānus.
