Marzabotto is a comune located in the Metropolitan City of Bologna within the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. It is situated in the Reno valley in the Bolognese Apennines, positioned south of the city of Bologna.
The municipality is notable for its historical and archaeological significance. It contains the archaeological site of Kainua, which serves as one of the most important examples of Etruscan urban planning. Additionally, the area is known for the Marzabotto massacre, also referred to as the massacre of Monte Sole, which was one of the largest massacres of civilians committed by German forces in Italy during World War II.
