Lama

Italy

Lama is not a city in Italy; rather, it is a title bestowed upon a realized practitioner of the Dharma within the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. While often associated with monks, the title is not exclusive to them, as nuns and female practitioners can also be recognized and entitled as lamas.

The term originates from the Tibetan word la-ma, which translates to "high mother." This name reflects the specific spiritual qualities and roles of the individual who holds the title within the Buddhist faith.
