Camposanto is a comune located in the Province of Modena within the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. It is situated on the Panaro river, approximately 35 kilometres northwest of Bologna and 20 kilometres northeast of Modena.
The name Camposanto translates literally from Italian as "holy field," which typically refers to a cemetery. However, its original Latin name, Campus Sanctus, likely originated as a tribute to the Santi family, a prominent Ferrara family who owned the land during the 14th century.
