Cimitile is a comune located in the Metropolitan City of Naples within the Campania region of Italy. It is situated approximately 25 km (16 mi) northeast of Naples and covers an area of 2.74 km2 (1.06 sq mi). As of December 31, 2017, the municipality had a population of 7,172 residents.
In antiquity, Cimitile served as the necropolis for the town of Nola. It was in this location that Paulinus of Nola established a monastic community in the year 395. The settlement eventually formed within the coemeterium nolanum and is characterized by its Paleochristian basilicas.
