Samo was a historical figure who served as the founder and sole ruler of the first recorded unified tribal polity of Slavs. Known as Samo's realm, his rule lasted from 623 until his death in 658.
According to Fredegar, which is the earliest source regarding his life and the basis for all subsequent accounts, Samo was originally a Frankish merchant from Sens.
