Capestrano is a town located in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It is historically recognized as the birthplace of Saint John of Capistrano, an Italian Franciscan friar and Catholic priest.
Saint John of Capistrano was a prominent preacher, theologian, and inquisitor who became known as "the Soldier Saint." This nickname originated from his leadership in 1456, when he joined Hungarian military commander John Hunyadi to lead a crusade against the invading Ottoman Empire during the siege of Belgrade at the age of 70.
