Pescara is the capital city of the province of Pescara, located in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Situated on the Adriatic coast at the mouth of the River Aterno-Pescara, it serves as the most populated city in the Abruzzo region with a population of 118,657 residents.
The present-day municipality was established in 1927 through the merger of three distinct areas: the old Pescara fortress, the portion of the city located south of the river, and Castellamare Adriatico to the north. The surrounding territory was subsequently organized into the province of Pescara.
