Akureyri is a town located in northern Iceland. It serves as the country's fifth most populous municipality and holds the distinction of being the largest municipality situated outside of the Capital Region.
The municipality encompasses the town's neighborhood at the head of Eyjafjörður, as well as two additional islands: Hrísey, located at the mouth of Eyjafjörður, and Grímsey, which is positioned off the coast.
