Shirvan is a historical Iranian region located in the eastern Caucasus. It was recognized as a distinct territory during both the pre-Islamic Sasanian Era and the early Islamic period.
In the modern era, the region serves as an industrially and agriculturally developed part of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Geographically, it is situated between the western shores of the Caspian Sea and the Kura River, with its center located on the Shirvan Plain.
