Sarakhs is a city located in the Central District of Sarakhs County within the Razavi Khorasan province of Iran. It serves as the administrative capital for both the county and the district.
Historically, Sarakhs was an important stopping point along the Silk Road. During its 11th-century heyday, the city was known for housing many libraries. A significant portion of the original city site is currently situated across the border in Serakhs, Turkmenistan.
