Golestan

Iran

Golestan is a province located in the northeastern part of Iran, situated to the southeast of the Caspian Sea. It was established as an independent administrative region in 1997 after being split off from the Mazandaran Province.

The provincial capital is the city of Gorgan, which was known by the name Esterabad until it was officially renamed in 1937. Golestan is one of the 31 provinces that comprise the Islamic Republic of Iran.
