Mount Damavand is a dormant stratovolcano located in Iran. It stands as the highest peak in both Iran and Western Asia, reaching an elevation of 5,609 metres (18,402 ft). The mountain holds significant geographical distinctions as the highest volcano in Asia and the third highest volcano in the Eastern Hemisphere.
Situated in the middle of the Alborz range, Damavand is located near the southern coast of the Caspian Sea in Amol County, Mazandaran Province. It lies approximately 66 km (41 mi) northeast of Tehran and is adjacent to the areas of Varārū, Sesang, Gol-e Zard, and Mīānrūd. The mountain also holds a prominent place in Persian mythology and folklore.
