Khark Island, also known as Kharg Island and frequently referred to as the "Forbidden Island," is a continental island located in the Persian Gulf. It is situated approximately 25 kilometres (16 mi) off the coast of Iran and lies 660 kilometres (410 mi) northwest of the Strait of Hormuz.
The island is administered by the adjacent coastal Bushehr Province. It serves as a critical industrial hub, providing a seaport for the export of up to 90% of Iran's oil products and offering storage capacity for approximately 30 million barrels of oil.
