Rasht is a city located in the Central District of Rasht County within the Gilan province of Iran. It serves as the administrative capital for the province, the county, and the district. With a population of 679,995 recorded in 2016, it is the most populous city in northern Iran.
The city is known by the nickname "City of Silver Rain" and has historically functioned as a border city. Due to this role, it earned the historical moniker "Dār al-Marz Rasht," which translates to "Rasht on the Border."
