Secunderabad, formerly known as Ulwul, is a city located in the Indian state of Telangana. It serves as a twin city to Hyderabad and functions as one of the six zones of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The city was established in 1806 as a British cantonment and was named after Mir Akbar Ali Khan Sikander Jah, Asaf Jah III, who was the Nizam of the Asaf Jahi dynasty.
The city is characterized by its distinct history from Hyderabad; while Hyderabad served as the capital of the Nizams' princely state, Secunderabad developed directly under British rule until 1948. It currently serves as the headquarters for the South Central Railway zone and the 54th Infantry Division of the Indian Army. Additionally, Secunderabad houses Rashtrapati Nilayam, which is the winter office of the president of India.
The urban landscape includes numerous residential areas and apartments, notably in the Yapral neighborhood. This area is particularly known for housing many officials from the Indian Armed Forces.
