Sangareddy, formerly known as Sangareddipet, is a city and the district headquarters of the Sangareddy district in the western part of the Indian state of Telangana. It serves as the largest city within its district and ranks as the sixth largest city in the state.
The city was named after Sangareddy, the father of Maharani Shankaramma, who ruled the Andole dynasty (Papannapeta Samasthanam) during the Nizam era. The Sangareddy district covers an area of 4,464 square kilometers and is administratively organized into 28 mandals, 4 revenue divisions, 11 municipalities, and 647 gram panchayats.
