Patancheru, also known as Patancheruvu, is a city located in the northwestern region of Hyderabad, India. It is situated approximately 32 km from the city center on the Hyderabad-Solapur highway and about 18 km from HITEC City.
The area serves as an industrial zone and was formerly the headquarters for the Bidar and Gulshanabad revenue divisions. The town features several temples constructed between the 12th and 15th centuries and is home to the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).
Patancheru is a significant hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing. However, this industrial activity has led to severe environmental consequences, resulting in local river water being identified as some of the most drug-polluted water in the world.
