Dumka is a city located in the Indian state of Jharkhand. It serves as the headquarters for both the Dumka district and the Santhal Pargana region. The city was designated as the regional headquarters after the Santhal Pargana area was carved out of the Bhagalpur and Birbhum districts following the Santal Hool of 1855.
The city became part of Jharkhand, India's 28th state, on November 15, 2000, when it was separated from the southern part of Bihar along with 18 other districts. Known as a peaceful and green city, Dumka also functions as the sub-capital of Jharkhand. The nearest major cities to Dumka are Suri and Deoghar.
