Rasra is a city and municipal board located in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, India. It serves as one of the six tehsils within the district and functions as an important commercial hub for nearby villages, featuring various markets including Sadar Bazaar, Station Road Market, and specialized fish, chicken, and mutton markets.
The city is also known as Nath Nagri because it houses the Nath Baba mandir, a prominent religious site. Its name, Rasra, is a portmanteau of the Hindi words "Ras" (juice) and "Sada/Sara" (rotten), originating from the historical production of sugar from rotten sugarcane. The area is characterized by its diverse religious culture, hosting numerous temples, churches, and mosques.
Notable local cultural features include the celebration of Dussehra and Chhath as primary festivals. Additionally, Rasra is known for Lounglatta, a famous local sweet, and provides access to some of the top schools in the district.
